Workshop/Conference Description

    Discover worship through movement at this event co-sponsored by  Edenton Street UMC Music Council and the Jubilate School of the Arts, Inc for ages 8 years old to 108 years old.

     2008 participants will pre-register for specific sessions and receive a schedule of their classes with a confirmation email prior to workshop.  Scroll down to follow link for a printable registration form and a liability form.  See Registration Form for fees and deadlines.  People choosing to register the day of the workshop will only be admitted into sessions which still have space. The workshop is limited to 165 participants.

Workshop Session Descriptions 

*Harmonics-a dance style  based on natural movement to worship music for beginning students and those with no dance experience. Lindy Bravo

*Technique classes in Modern to contemporary Christian music, Intermediate - Cami Capps, Advance - Derek Capps, Children - Cami Capps, Friday, Beginning/Intermediate - Cami Capps 

*Technique classes in Jazz,& Hip Hop  to contemporary Christian music, Beginning, & Advance - Derek Capps, Children - Derek Capps, Friday, Beginning - Derek Capps

*Technique classes in Ballet to classical and contemporary Christian music, Beginning, Intermediaate/Advnce - Judy Gardo

*Leadership– this is a full session with a presentation by Ronya-Lee Anderson on the "Essentials for a Dance ministry", a question/answer session, a sharing of resources and discussion of issues of interest, led by Domini Boling and Ronya-Lee Anderson

*Leadership luncheon—During the lunch break, dance team, studio, or company leaders are invited to convene together to network and share. A local church dance team leader will facilitate. (Bring your lunch or buy your lunch with your registration to maximize the time together.)

*Performing vs. Worship– non-movement session presenting specific differences between the performer and worshipper, important aspects to consider for those who desire to minister with dance. Ronya-Lee Anderson (Recommended for Leaders)

*Modern Dance Choreography - great combinations of movement which can be adapted into dances Beginning, & Advance - Cami Capps, Friday, Intermediate/Advance - Derek Capps

*Jazz Choreography –  great Jazz combinations to Contemporary Christian music; can be adapted for creating dances, Intermediate - Derek Capps

*African– traditional African movement for developing exciting dance combinations, Intermediate/Advance - Ronya-Lee Anderson

*Flags/Silks– two classes offered, 1. presenting Biblical foundation of Flags/Silks, 2. hands on worship experience dancing with Flags and Silks, Ellen Cureton

*Creating Worship Choreography– exploring dance/spiritual elements in the process of choreographing dance for worship, liturgy, and presentation. (Recommended for Leaders) Domini Boling

*Moving in Scripture, Spirit, and Heart– dancing the Psalms, discovering your own creative movement from your heart in the Spirit of worship, with some group work, for all levels, Ronya-Lee Anderson

*Contemporary Repertoire– advance students have opportunity to learn all or a portion of a dance which can be adapted to various settings for ministry, (“Via Delarosa” [dance selection subject to change]) Domini Boling

*Dancing Prayers– participants pray for each other through dance, using imagery of the Trinity, (This has been a popular class. If you haven't taken it, you don't want to miss it this year!) Cami Capps 

*Sharing the Gospel through Dance– learn an approach to evangelizing through dance on the mission field. Lindy Bravo

*Davidic– Messianic worship dance, the Christian adaptation of the Israeli style of dance which has been passed down through the ages in the Jewish culture, offered at two levels, Beginning, and Intermediate, Linda Liegel     

*Children’s Classes—Children follow a track  of various styles of dance, which include a creative warm up of  worship dances to facilitate getting to know each other with Miss Judy Gardo and Mrs. Domini, Hip Hop, of course with Mr. Derek, challenging modern lyrical dance with Mrs. Cami, a fun worship dance experience with the flags and silks by Miss Ellen, wrapping up with some interpretive dance coupled with a creative improvisation worship dance experience with props.
